It's now clear the jackals of Bush and Co. are going to raid the
treasury before the end of the nightmarish eight years. Freddie Mac,
Fannie Mae, Lehman, AIG and all the big financial leeches of the Wall
Street gang are lining up with hands out to get the welfare of the
American government.

BAGHDAD — Iraqi lawmakers returned from their summer recess Tuesday, still gridlocked over the critical law on provincial elections and with no new vote in sight.
A premature vote, warned Ali Adib, of the ruling Dawaa Party, could lead to another veto by the Kurdish leadership. "It means we'll go into crisis and the positions of the blocs will freeze and get more and more complicated," he said.
Elections in Iraq's 18 provinces are seen as crucial for national reconciliation and safeguarding the security gains of recent months. They would be the country's first since 2005 and would enfranchise many Sunnis who boycotted that round.
But the status of oil-rich, ethnically mixed northern region of Kirkuk has proven contentious. Kurds currently dominate Kirkuk's political leadership and administration, and a Kurdish victory there in provincial elections could be a step toward that region's annexation by the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region.

How many voter-registration mass mailers are "returned to sender" in the run-up to Election Day may determine how many Ohio residents are eligible to vote.
Ohio election officials are sending out a mass mailer stamped "do not forward" to all registered voters today (Sept. 5) with an absentee ballot application and other important notices for Nov. 4.
What's important here is not so much what's going out as what's being returned to sender.
Unbeknownst to the would-be recipients, the same mailer - just 60 days before the election - has the potential to determine their eligibility to vote, challenged not by election officials but by partisan opposition.

A lawsuit filed by the state attorney general Wednesday has the potential to slow down voting lines in what promises to be a staggering turnout for the Nov. 4 election, local voting officials said.

Women say NO - Part 1
Sarah Palin’s mocking, sarcastic speech at the Republican National Convention made me very nervous about having her at a table with world leaders. The thought of her representing our country among sophisticated, diplomatic, global thinkers scares me. Not to mention that on every issue that is close to my heart—education and choice for girls and women, the environment, guns, censorship and religious freedom—she is a polar opposite. Do the Republicans think that American women are so stupid that we will support any woman on the ticket just because she is a woman? I feel belittled by her selection and appalled by the candidate.
